Geoffrey M. Wahl

Geoffrey M. Wahl, Ph.D.

In 1970, Dr. Wahl was awarded his B.A. in Bacteriology from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1976, he received a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from Harvard University. He was a Research Assistant at the University of Utah from 1975 to 1976 and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University from 1976 to 1979. He then joined the Salk Institute as an Assistant Professor in the Molecular Biology and Virology Laboratory. Dr. Wahl received his present appointment as Professor in the Gene Expression Laboratory in 1989. Dr. Wahl is an Adjunct Professor in the Biology Department at the University of California, San Diego.

Sally Ganley

Sally Ganley is a Research Administrative Assistant III. She has been at the Salk Institute since June 2006 and she joined the Wahl lab in July 2012.

Yao-Cheng (Leo) Li Yao-Cheng (Leo) Li, Ph.D. graduated with a B. S. in Plant Pathology, 1992 from National Chung-Hsing University and a M.S. in Biochemistry, 1994 from the National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan. He graduated in 2002 with a Ph.D. in Pharmaclogy from the State University of New Jersey and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Jersey. Leo joined the Wahl Lab in 2003.

Research Associates

Kathleen DelGiorno Kathleen (Kathy) DelGiorno, Ph.D. graduated with a B.S. in Biology from the United States Air Force Academy in 2005. She went on to serve as a Biological Research Officer in the U.S. Air Force for two years before working as a Research Associate studying pancreatic and adrenal cancers at the Translational Genomics Research Institute; simultaneously earning an M.S. from the University of Florida in Pharmacy. She earned her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2012, first studying pancreatic cancer development at Stony Brook University and then at Mayo Clinic Florida. She completed three years of Postdoctoral research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center investigating the role of interstitial fluid pressure to treatment resistance in pancreatic cancer and joined the Wahl lab in the Spring of 2016 to study cellular heterogeneity in early pancreatic tumor development.

Chris Dravis

Chris Dravis, Ph.D. obtained a B.A. in 2001 in Biology and Chemistry from University of Pennsylvania. In 2009, He received a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Chris joined the Wahl Lab in 2012.

Maya Ridinger

Maya Ridinger, Ph.D. obtained her Master in Cancer Biology (University Paris VII) and in Engineering in Life Sciences (AgroParisTech) in 2008. She received her PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from University Paris VII in 2012. She joined the Wahl lab in Spring 2013.

Christy L. Trejo

Christy Trejo, Ph.D. received her B.Sc. in Cell and Developmental Biology in 2005 from UC Irvine and her Ph.D. in Cell Biology from UC San Francisco in 2012. She joined the Wahl lab in Fall 2012.

Charlene Huang is a second year undergraduate at UCSD and is majoring in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. She joined the Wahl Lab in May 2015 as a research assistant.

Cynthia Ramos

Jaslem Herrera Valdez is a fourth year undergraduate at UCSD majoring in
Biochemistry and Cell Biology. She joined the Wahl Lab in June 2015.

Luke Wang is a first year undergraduate at UCSD majoring in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Luke joined the lab in March 2014.

Summer Student Rotation

Karissa Huang Brandon Cooper is a Senior at Patrick Henry High School and will be graduating in 2015. He is spending the summer of 2014 in the Wahl Lab as part of The Salk's High School Summer Internship Program.
